Dry spots and uneven coverage
Cause: clogged or broken heads, coverage gaps, blocked spray, or mismatched heads. Fix: clean or replace heads, adjust patterns for head-to-head coverage, and keep each zone to one head type.
A head that sprays everywhere or won't pop up
Cause: a cracked head (often mower or foot damage) or one stuck by debris. Fix: replace the broken head or clear the debris so it pops up and retracts freely.
Misting or weak spray
Cause: misting means too much pressure; weak spray means low pressure, a clog, or a leak. Fix: add a pressure regulator for misting; clean nozzles or find the leak for weak spray.
A zone that won't turn on
Cause: controller programming, a faulty solenoid, or a wiring break. Fix: check the schedule, test/replace the solenoid, and trace the wiring.
A zone that won't shut off
Cause: debris or a worn diaphragm holding the valve open, or a controller fault. Fix: clean the valve and replace the diaphragm.
Soggy spots and high bills
Cause: a leaking valve or underground line. Fix: isolate the zone, locate the leak, and repair the pipe or valve.
